Welcoming and informational remarks were given to the public.
Alisa Somera, Legislative Deputy Director, welcomed the public and explained how to attend and participate in Board meetings, either in person or via SFGovTV. She noted the availability of interpretation services with advance notice. She also stated that written comments can be submitted via email ([email protected]) or postal mail.
Committee of the Whole
Supervisors Melgar and Stefani were excused from attending the meeting.
Supervisor Mandelman, seconded by Supervisor Walton, moved to excuse Supervisors Melgar and Stefani from today's special meeting, a motion which carried with 9 ayes and 2 excused.
Unfinished Business
A charter amendment regarding Mayoral authority over SFMTA budget proposals was tabled.
The Board discussed Charter Amendment 230986, sponsored by Supervisors Safai, Peskin, and Ronen, which would grant the Mayor authority to disapprove certain SFMTA budget proposals, specifically increases in fares, parking meter maximum rates, and net expansion of parking meter operation hours or days. This was scheduled for an election on March 5, 2024. The President Peskin inquired whether anyone wished to address the Board on the Charter Amendment. One speaker voiced concerns. Supervisor Safai, seconded by Supervisor Ronen, moved to table the amendment, which passed with 9 ayes and 2 excused.
