The Clerk of the Board announced that Supervisors Jane Kim, Aaron Peskin, and Malia Cohen had sent communications informing the Board of their absence and requesting to be excused from the meeting. Following this, Supervisor Ronen nominated Supervisor Yee as President Pro Tempore for the meeting, seconded by Supervisor Safai, which carried with a vote of 8 Ayes and 3 Excused. A subsequent motion by Supervisor Ronen, seconded by Supervisor Fewer, to formally excuse Supervisors Cohen, Kim, and Peskin from attending the meeting also passed with the same vote.

The Board of Supervisors convened as a Committee of the Whole to discuss the ongoing hotel worker strike, which involved 2,000 workers from seven Marriott-operated hotels. The workers cited the company's failure to address the escalating cost of living and growing job insecurity. Anand Singh, President of United Here, Local 2, was given the privilege of the floor to address the Board. Numerous individuals, including Consuela Escarcia, Alvonda Meyers, Ms. Wong, Alfredo Calderon, and others, provided comments on the matter. Following public comment, President Pro Tempore Yee closed the hearing and dissolved the Committee of the Whole.

Following the public hearing, Supervisor Ronen made additional remarks about the Marriott hotel worker strike. Supervisor Tang was noted absent at 1:40 PM and for the remainder of the meeting. Supervisor Safai was noted absent at 2:43 PM and for the remainder of the meeting.

The Board opened the floor for public comment. Tom Gilberty expressed concerns regarding the loss of various union jobs. Another speaker voiced concerns related to the incarnation of mental illness and other various issues affecting the community.
