The board discussed a charter amendment regarding the city's responsibility for maintaining street trees.

The Board of Supervisors discussed Charter Amendment 160381, which had been referred without recommendation from the Rules Committee. The amendment proposes transferring responsibility for street tree maintenance to the City and establishing a Street Tree Maintenance Fund. The fund would be used primarily for street tree maintenance and tree maintenance on San Francisco Unified School District property. The amendment also requires an annual contribution of $19 million from the City to the fund, adjusted annually for changes in aggregate discretionary City revenues. The Planning Department's determination under the California Environmental Quality Act was affirmed, and the amendment was ordered to be submitted to voters at the November 8, 2016 election. The vote was unanimous in favor, with all eleven supervisors (Avalos, Breed, Campos, Cohen, Farrell, Kim, Mar, Peskin, Tang, Wiener, and Yee) voting in the affirmative.
