Inaugural Meeting on Board Member Certification, Oath of Office, and Election of Board President

Angela Calvillo, Clerk of the Board, communicated that she received certification from John Arntz, Director of Elections, regarding the newly elected members of the Board of Supervisors. The following supervisors were declared elected: Catherine Stefani (District 2), Gordon Mar (District 4), Matt Haney (District 6), Rafael Mandelman (District 8), and Shamann Walton (District 10). The Clerk also confirmed receipt of communication from the Controller regarding surety bond requirements for all newly elected Board Members, per Administrative Code, Article IX, Sections 16.122(a-e) and 16.126(b).

Numerous members of the public spoke, with the majority expressing support for Supervisor Ronen for President of the Board. Several speakers also voiced their support for Supervisor Yee.

New Business

The Board elected Norman Yee as the President of the Board of Supervisors.

Supervisors Yee and Ronen accepted their respective nominations. Clerk Calvillo reviewed the principles for the election of the President, including voting order, abstentions, majority vote requirement, and procedures for reopening nominations. In the first round of voting, Supervisor Yee received 7 votes, and Supervisor Ronen received 4 votes. Supervisor Mar, seconded by Supervisor Peskin, moved to rescind the previous vote. The motion passed. A second vote by acclamation resulted in Supervisor Yee being elected President of the Board of Supervisors by a vote of 10-1, with Supervisor Ronen voting against.
